7 Reasons Why Zumba is the New Yoga

What could be better than being involved in a new trend and staying fit at the same time! After dozens of yoga classes began to be introduced in various towns and cities, another form of exercise has begun to take over.

Zumba is a dance fitness program created by Colombian dancer and choreographer Alberto “Beto” Perez during the 1990s. Zumba involves dance and aerobic elements. Zumba’s choreography incorporates hip-hop, soca, samba, salsa, merengue, mamboand martial arts. Squats and lunges are also included. A quick look at numbers will tell you how zumba has begun to catch on.

Although you might think that this kind of heave aerobics would be limited to the young but that’s not true. Like yoga, zumba is beneficial to people of all ages. There are even some Zumba programs designed especially for children called “Zumbatonic,” making them feel more active and healthy. It’s also the perfect exercise for the elderly by helping them stay strong and supple. It all depends on the level o0f zumba class you take and the instructor.

You could go to this type of workout for at least two or three times per week and you’ll get to socialize and make a lot of new friends among your Zumba classmates. Perhaps it is the only form of exercise where the students enjoy as much the instructor!  And when you have fitness buddies, the time goes by even faster!

It involves moving the entire body to the rhythm of the music and your muscles will be engaged to make some specific moves like squats and twists, thus allowing you to tone your entire body without even realizing it.

Zumba is the perfect workout to take if you want to get rid of all that stress out yourself through. The loud beats and thumps of the music along with high intensity moves enable you to engage all your senses and focus only on the moves. No large and heavy weight has to be lifted, no ab is to be crunched, and no amount of repetitive boring exercises has to be done. If you like to dance, Zumba will feel like dancing.  If you like to work out, well, Zumba will still feel la great workout.  Of course, this is not to say that Zumba does not offer many health benefits, as it absolutely does.  It’s simply that the energy and confidence one gains from Zumba weighs much more heavily on the mind during a workout than the hundreds of calories that are being burned.

Were you delighted with the yoga CDs of celebrities like Shilpa Shetty, Bipasha Basu and so on? Zumba is not far behind as it gives you the freedom of working out from home so all you have to  do is put on a CD and dance to the rhythm without spending a lot of money.  Even if you have a Wii or PS3, a DVD or a laptop, or even access to fitness channels, you can do it right in your living room.
