Creative Visualization

“Every moment of your life is infinitely creative

And the universe is endlessly bountiful.

Just put forth a clear enough request,

And everything your heart truly desires must come to you.”

These are the opening lines of Shakti Gawain’s self-help book- ‘Creative Visualization’. This classic talks about various techniques of exercises and meditation that can help you to use the power of your own imagination to create what you want in your life. It is a guide to help you change negative habit patterns, improve your self-esteem and imbibe a sense of creativity in your thoughts and helps you improve your health too.

You have all heard about Stephen Hawking. He is in a paralyzed state since many years now (Stephen Hawking has been diagnosed having a disease called neuro-muscular dystrophy which is related to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and unfortunately is completely paralyzed). But still, he is a highly acclaimed physicist, cosmologist, author and Director of Research at the Centre for Theoretical Cosmology within the University of Cambridge. If it had not been for his willpower and for the determination and power of his mind, he would not have been so successful today.

A positive mind and a positive attitude are very closely related to each other. Long ago I read a beautiful poem regarding keeping your positive attitude intact. I still remember some of its lines-

“God grant me the serenity to accept the things that I cannot change;

The courage to change the things that I can;

and the wisdom to know the difference.”

Shakti Gawain, in her book Creative visualization talks about this power of the mind. She describes creative visualization as the technique of using your imagination to create what you want in life. It is the natural power of imagination, the basic creative energy of the universe, which you you constantly, whether you are aware of it or not.

The book is divided into 5 parts namely;

  1. Basics of Creative visualization process
  2. Using Creative visualization
  3. Meditations and affirmations
  4. Special techniques
  5. Living creatively

It is when you go through the pages of the book that you realize that there so many easy techniques that you should follow to live a better life. Throughout the world there have been many instances where people have overcome the most fatal of the diseases only because of their willpower. I am in no way disregarding or giving an inferior status to the importance of the field of medicine, but what I wish to imply is that the mind and the body function in co-operation. If your mind is powerful and has the strength to make your body function well, trust me it is one of the best things that can happen to you.

The book that we are talking about is not preachy in any way. Nor does it burden you with the colorful language of philosophy or some sort of divine connection of any holy form. It simply gathers logic and combines it with the power of the mind-which is again, scientifically proven to help you to live a better quality of life. What is interesting about this book is that it also takes the help of science to describe all the techniques used in Creative visualization and also describes how and why they work. Not once does a reader fell that the book is preachy and going into the philosophical lane. No, never. That is why, I personally feel that it is one must-read for everyone out there- be it a young student who is stepping into high school, or a house maker or a patient suffering from a disease or a businessman or just any retired person.

The book offers a good view of the psychological aspects of a person too. It concentrates on topics like the use of affirmations, music, and accepting your pros and cons. It gives you a complete analysis of your mind and your thinking process. And trust me; nothing amazes a reader more than the fact that the writer is describing the reader’s mind perfectly! It gives the reader a sense of confidence that yes, this writer knows something.

I really recommend this book for you!

There is something more that I wish to say. Today, in the times of over-dependency on the internet, most of you are unfortunately ignoring the books. The scene today is such that people read reviews on the net, make their opinions and then, that’s it! And thus, in the race for this pace, many of you fail to read and understand the true essence of reading the entire book. You lose on the experience of forming your own perspectives after reading a review and then comparing your own view with the one you read. I am in no way saying that you should not use the internet. But I wish to say that don’t ignore the knowledge that a book shares with you. Use your internet as well as your books, in co-operation.

Do not forget the fact that, “Reading maketh a full man”.

Wish you a very happy reading experience! And trust me, once you start reading, there’s no going back!

Also, creative visualization is a beautiful book to start or maybe re-start your journey of reading!
