DETOX TODAY!

There is this green tea advertisement doing the rounds which basically talks about the kind of junk we fill ourselves with, and that too on a regular basis. Let’s just say it is bang on! We constantly talk about health and how we want to lead a healthy lifestyle and how we will give up junk food from tomorrow for sure etc etc, but do we ever do it? Do we ever really sit and think about the short term as well as long term implications of what we are eating today? And the absolute truth of the matter is that it has become next to impossible to completely stop the intake of outside food or fast food or junk food ( whatever you may want to call it), such is the kind of lives we all lead. In this scenario timely detoxification of the body has become an absolute must. Detoxification basically means getting rid of all the toxins that have accumulated in our body over a certain period of time, thereby cleaning our blood. “Detoxification works because it addresses the needs of individual cells, the smallest units of human life,” says Peter Bennett, N.D., co-author of 7-Day Detox Miracle with Stephen Barrie, N.D., and Sara Faye.

We would like to clear out a few things here first : detoxification should ideally be carried out by healthy individuals once a year but this definitely does not include nursing mothers, small children, those suffering from chronic degenerative diseases, tuberclusis, cancer. So we suggest that before carrying out the process, you consult your physician first and clear out any kind of doubts that you may have about the detoxification process.
This process can be carried out in various ways :
1. BEWARE OF PESTICIDES
The amount of pesticides being used these days is just out of control – which basically means that even if we limit our diet to just healthy foods and vegetables, we still end up taking in a lot of toxins into our system, all of it highly harmful. This right here is the reason why our mothers and grandmothers become so paranoid when it comes to washing all fruits and vegetables again and again and again! So do as your mom has always done – wash all fruits and vegetables as thoroughly as possible before consuming. Pesticides in the air, water and food around us are potential causes of diseases as serious as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s(in the long run). This is because the chemicals present in pesticides effect that part of the brain which is responsible for the production of energy for our body. So protect yourself and remember that you don’t need to use any kind of fancy detergent – water works just fine.

2. BYE BYE PLASTIC
We know how harmful plastic is and yet we use it extensively in our daily lives. Start finding alternatives to using plastic In and around your house. It might be difficult in some cases but trust me it is definitely required. And little changes can go a long way – for example instead of using plastic bottles to store water, there the option of using some nice glass bottles. Or even steel jugs for that matter. A great Indian alternative here is using a Surahi which is basically an earthen pot that naturally cools and cleans water. Its also great for storage. So if you really put your mind to it, its not that difficult to find suitable alternatives to plastic.

3. GO OFF ALCOHOL
Do we need to explain the why here? You know it, I know it, the whole world knows it – too much of alcohol will screw up your body’s mechanism faster than you order the next martini. Also, as far as the ladies are concerned, alcohol does really raise the risk of breast cancer. A huge study conducted in the United Kingdom suggests that one drink a day is linked to 11 more cases of breast cancer for every 1000 women. A drink beyond this obviously harms one even more. You definitely want to cleanse your system of all the toxins that you are stuffing into it in the form of your favorite cocktail!

4. STAY SMOKE FREE
Are you one of those people who believe that smoking is bad but a single occasional cigarette here and there is okay? Wake up and smell the coffee my friend – its not okay! Researchers at the University of Arizona have found that even a single cigarette impairs blood flow to the heart. And then there is the additional threat of secondhand smoke which is equally worrying – just exposure to cigarette smoke kills around 50,000 people any given year. Now you can’t stop people around you from smoking, what you can do is help your body rebound and that is by consuming a lot of broccoli and cabbage. 3 – 5 servings a week should be sufficient, but be careful not to microwave or boil them!

So these extremely, extremely simple steps – even you will says that these are things which can easily be practiced in our daily lives – can go a long way if followed in a religious and determined way. Try them out and feel the difference.
