Yes, it’s that time of the year again – our lovely dresses and scarves and comfy shorts come out and so does the heat and sun and pollution. You may or may not be a summer’s person but the fact is that summers spell doom for almost every skin type. The problems range from oil accumulation to acne breakout and blackheads and what not! Before you get scared, let us assure you that we are here to help you out. Here is our simple and effective guide to skincare during the summers. We’ve tried to keep all our tips simple, convenient and quick. Also, we hope that all the essentials will be found lying around the house! So read on and have a happy and fresh summer –
1. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate

Drinking plenty of water
Yes we know that you already know this – everyone from our grandmothers to know-it-all aunts have been saying this for ages. This is also the standard reply of almost all actresses and models when asked about their skin regime. The problem for everyone else isn’t the not knowing, it’s the not following! In spite of knowing all about the amazing advantages of water for your skin, especially during the summers, how many of us have actually switched from colas to water? This summer, do it and do it religiously. That glow on your face after the detoxification will be worth it!

2. Cleanse regularly
Your face needs to be cleansed at least twice a day, if not more. The pollution, sweat, dust and heat tend to clog up your pores. Cleanse your face regularly to stay away from problems like acne and stay fresh all day. Another point worth noting here is that you should cleans your face even if you’ve stayed at home all day because the oil accumulation still takes place! Absolute must in the summers.

3. Use a toner
Another important step that should be incorporated in your everyday beauty regimen is the use of toner. A toner helps close the pores of your face and subsequently helps fight acne. Another plus point of using a toner is that immediately freshens you and your skin up. Look for a brand that suits your skin type. A great alternative to a toner is rose water.

4. Exfoliate
Although this is something that should be done regularly throughout the year, its importance increases manifold during the summers. Exfoliating regularly helps remove accumulated dead skin and also increases blood flow, thereby giving you a lovely, fresh glow. To exfoliate you can choose from the truckloads of options available in the market these days (a personal recommendation would be a walnut scrub, works wonders for oily skin!) or you can even make your own scrub at home. Here’s a simple recipe: mix 4-5 tablespoons of gram flour, yogurt, little bit of turmeric and a few drops of rose water. Mix it all up and apply all over face and use it to exfoliate. Pay special attention to the T-region (for those with oily skin). Simple, inexpensive and effective.

5. Sunscreen
This is your best friend throughout the summers – don’t even think about stepping outdoors without splashing generous amounts of sunscreen on all the exposed parts of the body. If you can avoid going out from 10 am to 3 pm when the sunrays are the harshest. Another important tip which most of us don’t know is that sunscreen should be applied at least thirty minutes before stepping out into the sun for it to be effective. Also, if you are planning to stay out for long, re-apply at regular intervals.

6. Summer glow
Because of the beating our skin takes during the summers it deserves to be pampered a tiny bit more too. Be generous with your skin and you will be rewarded with a beautiful summer glow. Use face packs regularly to restore the water content of the skin which the sun and the heat seem to rob away from it. Again these face packs and face masks and what not are available in abundance in the market and also can be made up at home. Here are some quick simple summer face packs
a. Mix up some gram flour, glycerin and rose water in such a way so as to get a thick paste. Apply it on your face and arms and feet (basically the area which is exposed most to the sun). Let it dry and wash off. This is a wonder solution for those who suffer from tanning during the summers.
b. Blend half a cucumber and I large tablespoon of yogurt in a blender and use this as a face pack. The best part about this is that it is cools your skin and refreshes you like nothing else – a complete life saver in the summer months.
c. 2 Tablespoons Papaya + 1 tablespoon honey + 1 egg white = great, great skin! This simple paste on your face for twenty minutes and you’ll tire of compliments you get for your beautiful, glowing skin

These six simple tips are all you need to do to stay cool, fresh and glowing this summer season! Try them out – we promise it won’t be a waste of your time.
