Not too many of us really bother getting out of bed early to get some fresh air and exercise. Waking up early may sound extremely tiresome but it is time to “shake off this downy sleep”, like William Shakespeare had so rightly pointed out. Waking up early and starting the day with exercise is the best way to feel fresh and energetic. By that I do not mean to hit the gymnasium, but to actually go for a walk or a run and enjoy the fresh air. Perks of being a morning person is well, the fact that you do not spend a major portion of your day sleeping, which honestly is a waste of your life. And no I am not being melodramatic when I say life because if you sleep late everyday of the week, then you technically are spending a good many productive hours in sleep. I on the other hand am a firm believer of carpe diem, therefore, seize the day people! The best way to begin the day is to go for a walk or a run, so that you feel relaxed throughout the day. Therefore, today we will be talking about the great benefits of taking an early jog, first thing in the morning.

Jogging is a type of aerobic workout and all things aerobic helps in preventing hypertension and cardiac issues. It helps you get a better quality of life. Jogging or power walking, helps prevent cardiovascular issues, as it gets proper exercise. It also helps moderate your blood pressure and prevents it from spiking to higher levels. Jogging helps lower LDL or the “bad cholesterol” in your blood. The fact that it reduces hypertension is a great benefit, for hypertension is known as “the silent killer” which when unchecked can lead to haemorrhaging, atherosclerosis and aneurysms in the long run. So, moral of the story is that if you have hypertension or cardiac problems, jogging is one of the easiest ways of reducing the two.

This might sound unbelievable, but it has been proved by researchers. Jogging helps the body by supplying increased levels of oxygen, which is also called oxygenation. Now due to this the cells receive proper oxygen. Cancer on the other hand takes place for various reasons, one of which is abnormal mutation of cells due to low oxygen levels. In this case, they mutate rigorously and turn malignant. Therefore, jogging does help in preventing certain types of cancer. So, this is a major benefit.

This is an obvious fact, but many of us overlook it since we technically only workout to lose weight. But any form of aerobic exercise results in the stimulation of macrophages or bacteria fighting cells and lymphocytes, which fights all sorts of infections that try to invade the body. Jogging increases the macrophage and lymphocyte content, which by circulating more efficiently strengthens our immunity system. In the process, contraction of diseases like common cold, flu, viral infections can be avoided. Thus, jogging does help us by preventing the contraction of various diseases.

Jogging helps in reducing the chances of diabetes. Being overweight gradually leads to developing diabetes, whereas jogging which happens to be an aerobic regime, helps in preventing the same from happening.

Well this is an obvious factor, since any form of rigorous exercise helps you lose weight. Losing weight and looking good, boosts our mental state, we feel more confident about ourselves and our body. Your over all demeanour improves significantly since power walks or jogs help release the happy hormone called endorphins. These chemicals keep you upbeat and on the go and is commonly referred to as a runners’ high. It also helps combat stress levels and a sense of calm takes over after the jog. It leads to the stimulation of non epinephrine, serotonin and dopamine which keeps you calm.
Now that we know the benefits of jogging and understand it literally from the cellular level, it is time to stop making excuses and get your running shoes on. We live in a world plagued by cancer and various fatal diseases, where our only hope before hitting the pills is working out. Any type of aerobic exercise is bound to benefit you, all you have to do is take the time out for it. Apart from the above reasons it helps you lose weight and makes you fit. So it is time you seize the opportunity to make your old age a better and healthier place to live in, than be in pain and curse your previous lifestyle for the kind of harm it had inflicted on your body. The choice is ours, just like we aspire to make ourselves successful in our personal and professional spheres, your health is an ever bigger challenge where you have to struggle to improve it as much as you possibly can. Because this aspect the other ones will fade away very soon. So, start from today and work your ass off to be healthy and fit.
