Reading is good for health! Yes, this very fact has been proven by the book worms and now even the researchers. The problem however is that not many of you read all that much. Oh, is that because you are too busy? Well, in that case, I have only two words for you, SAVE IT! Reading is the most glorious and self indulgent practice mankind has ever followed. Books really are your best friend. You do not need to live up to anyone’s expectations when it comes to books, so it does not really matter if you like the Twilight series or Jeffrey Archer’s novels. It is completely your choice. I love reading varied books like the Percy Jackson series, the Eragon series, The Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Kane and Abel, As the Crow Flies, Only Time will Tell, Perks of Being a Wallflower, The Notebook, Love Story, The Fault in our Stars, Pride and Prejudice and the one which tops the list is Wuthering Heights. Reading is something you can enjoy all by yourself, even when you feel the blues, this inanimate object can cheer you up completely, and if you are lucky, you might find a little bit of yourself in the weathered pages of a novel.

Books take you into a different world, away from your fears and grief. It opens up characters who almost become a part of your life. It can make you feel emotions for characters who are merely fictional beings, that is the kind of power it wields. Books will teach you how to deal with your pain or merely distract you from the temporary dilemma, but they will always be there to tell a good story and fill your soul with emotions you did not know even existed. However, the question remains, how does it really help you.

Books heal:
Well to start with there is a reason why book clubs exist in the first place, and not all of them are there just to discuss and praise the works of the numerous authors. In a world where the status-quo changes every second, it is difficult for us to keep up. However, some of us fail to keep up, which leads to severe depression. These people often feel alienated and lost and uncared for. This is where books act as healers and improve their mental condition. People who suffer from depression also suffer from zero confidence, therefore once they start reading any book, they gradually accumulate the confidence to talk about them at these clubs, which in turn boosts their confidence levels. This may sound like a very unreliable therapy, but these have been conducted by The Reading Organisation (TRO), a charity based in Liverpool, to improve the quality of life for these people and engage them in activities. Anti- depressant medication is the mainstream cure, but that also has it’s drawbacks. In face even Dartmouth College and Ohio State University has proved the authenticity of this therapy.

Improves mood swings:
For certain people, mood swings are a common issue. But not too many of them realise the toll it takes on the   people surrounding them. Mood swings have no rhyme or reason, but they just happen and it baffles the person suffering from it as well as the people surrounding him or her. This does give rise to family issues and weakens family ties. Such people benefit greatly from reading novels, because it keeps them away from company when they suffer from fits of anger or bad moods, and it also soothes them. Reading a positive book, only brings out positive results. They make you feel better and more relaxed than when you started.

Healthy mental state:
Reading increases your imaginative prowess, and opens up the worlds of different people. When you start observing situations from a different person’s perspective your outlook on life undergoes transformation. Books are read to be enjoyed and loved, they are improve your mood, enhance your knowledge and are there with you in your solitary hour. Indulging in books is a way of indulging in yourself. And in this busy world, you need those few hours away from everything and enjoy “me time” with a cup of coffee and a good book. If you remain healthy mentally, you can deal with your problems and deficiencies much better. Self indulging practices only benefit you and your relationships in the long run. Books are the best way of doing precisely that.

So, in stead of spending hours on Facebook and Twitter, which only ruin your mental peace it is best to ignore the world and vanish into the fictional one, painted by an author. Reading also improves your vocabulary and knowledge, which all of you are aware of. The most important aspect of this habit is that it gives you a few short hours of peace, in a busy and chaotic world. So folks, it is time to hit the book stores and grab the one thing you have wanting to read for a while. It would also be advisable to grab a cup of coffee while you are it, happy reading!
