“Homeopathy cures a larger percentage of cases than any other form of treatment and is beyond doubt safer and more economical.”
― Mahatma Gandhi

If you remember having small white sweet balls for an ailment you suffered from, your childhood was awesome.

Do you remember a faint elderly person from your childhood who used to touch some nerves in your body and used to prescribe you with small sweet white balls in a small plastic tube to eat at regular intervals to cure an ailment?Well if you do,that’s homeopathy for you.

You would surely remember that when your grandparents fell ill, they preferred to take ayurvedic medicines or homeopathy instead of modern artificial medicines.

Well I personally loved it because they were not bitter in taste.

Homeopathy is based on the principle that you can treat ‘like with like’.If a substance which causes symptoms when taken in large doses, can be used in small amounts to treat those same symptoms. It is a principle which is used in many medicines today which treat common ailments like cough, cold, flu, allergies and many more. However, one major difference  and advantage with homeopathic medicines is that substances are used in ultra high dilutions, which makes them non-toxic and hence with no side effects.

Homeopathic doctors treat the same amout of illness and ailments as modern medical doctors.

There are four basic types of homeopathy these days-

Classical homeopathy: It is based on the original
work of Sameual Hahnemann who developed this alternative medicine in 1796. It is believed that the real art is to identify the single, best remedy and potency for the person and then to carefully observe its effects, making adjustments if it was considered necessary. The
advantage of this approach is that it is easier to determine the effects
of any specific remedy.

Complex homeopathy: It involves combinations of
more than one remedy, sometimes at different potencies. It sometimes also involves herbal medicines. This form of homeopathy was developed by Swiss naturopath Alfred Vogel and German medical homeopath Dr Hans-Heinrich
Reckeweg, who called his system homotoxicology, referring to the
importance of toxins underlying disease. They believed that the body
could select the most appropriate remedy and hence destroy or remove toxins itself.

Clinical homeopathy: This approach, advocated by the medical doctor
Douglas Borland, focuses on specific remedies for individual diseases
and is usually referred to as therapeutic homeopathy/prescribing.
He a homeopathic physician, was an early follower of
Hahnemann who initially used the full range of homeopathic remedies
but later became convinced that most disease was linked to imbalance
of minerals within the body’s cells.
Animal homeopathy: Increasing numbers of vets are now using homeopathic
prescribing in the treatment of animals. The remedies and medications are similar to that of humans, only the dosage  are changed according to an animals behavior ,condition and physical conditions. Typical treatments are for given for infertility in cattle

They are many people who have said that homeopathy had worked wonders for them but according to a new research, there is no such evidence as to support the cure received by homeopathic medicines. It is considered to be placebo.

Hence there are not many doctors who practice homeopathy anymore. But in India,it has still has deep roots. It is still practiced by some doctors who have gained so much experience over the years that some people even the youth sometimes prefers them. The medicines are always a bonus as they don’t leave a bad taste behind.

Homeopathic doctors usually have a small clinic with walls of medicines in brown glass bottles with the faint smell of the medicines..They usually have their clinics near Temples,Gurudwara,Churches and mosques.Their fee is usually very minimal and hence absolutely pocket friendly.

Since the practice is dying slowly these days, IHMA i.e Indian Homeopathic Medical Association serve the human society by awarding the benefits of homoeopathic system of treatment to public, especially the low socio-economic groups  who cannot afford expensive medicines by conducting regular medical camps and fight to maintain the honor and dignity of the profession. Some of the objectives and missions of these associations are-

To serve the human society especially lower socio-economic groups.

To maintain the honour and dignity to uphold the interest of this profession and its practice.

To work for the abolition of fake homeopathic practices.

To set up camps specifically in endemics affected areas.

To improve public health by promoting advance homeopathic systems of medicines and allied sciences.

To improve the quality of homeopathic medicine, practice and education.

Believing that homeopathic is still believed to be a miracle only in India would be wrong. There are many foreigners who believe in the potential of homeopathy.

Even some part of me still believes that homeopathy is truly a form of alternative medical sciences. There are many associations worldwide who are working hard to retrieve the honour homeopathy once had.

You never know, there might be a time when our future generations would know about homeopathy or may not know about it at all.

Leaving that decision in the hands of the lord, I still hope that I would get prescribed those sweet little white balls with the tangy red coloured liquid in the future.

Fingers crossed!
