All of us fancy romantic novels and this man has the caliber to escalate our pipe dreams for Prince Charming soaring high. He is none other than Nicholas Sparks. Author of the New York Times bestsellers of all time- The Notebook, to begin with, this man has won a million hearts, especially of the ladies. Be it his ‘A Walk to Remember’ or ‘Message in a bottle’, The Lucky One or Dear John this author has set the standards for the genre of romance. He gives an essential emotional flavor to each of his novels, leaving the reader emotionally ruptured and sensitive. This knight in a shining armor was innately born to set a mirage of romance and emotional craving in woman. Born on December 31st, 1965, Sparks is an American novelist, producer and screenwriter. He has published eighteen novels so far, and eight of these romantic-dramas have been adapted into films. The spark that he was, he finished his first book at an early age of 28, within a period of 6 months-The Notebook, which was published by Warner Brothers. It had been the New York Times Bestseller in the first week of its release and had remained the best seller for more than a year. Even today, it ranks as one of the topmost romantic novels. It had bagged him 1 Million as an advance, and a plunging kick-start to his career as an aftermath. Nicholas was inspired by his wife’s grandparents and their 60 years’ of reigning romance, which he disseminated by penning down the lasting love of that couple. The story has also been adapted into a popular film with the same name, and a Bollywood movie ‘Zindagi Tera Naam’ was based on this movie. All of his books have been best sellers so far and have been printed in about 50 languages, with over 89 million copies in print worldwide. He is emotional and a lot of it is articulated in his work. He is often inspired by the people living around him and the simple stories he sees. Most of the characters of his books have a name similar to his dear ones. Cathy, his wife, as Catherine in Message in a Bottle; Savannah (his daughter) the protagonist in Dear John; Landon (son) the charming persona in A Walk to Remember; are a few to name. It is also seen that most of his novels are based on beach side stories or the places he has been accustomed to, like North Carolina etc. The poignant part in each of his novels begins when he kills/murders the main protagonists of the plot which sets the whole story apart and pertains to the readers’ emotions. Although not as a rule of thumb, this key factor is present in most of his successful stories like Message in a Bottle, Walk to Remember, The Guardian, Best of Me, etc. Post The Notebook, Sparks continued to write after finding an agent and publisher which he quips and sums up in his website/blog. He followed this novel with the bestsellers Message in a Bottle(1998), A Walk to remember(1999),The Rescue(2000), A Bend in the Road(2001), Nights in Rodanthe (2002), The Guardian (2003), The Wedding ( 2003), Three Weeks with My Brother (2004), True Believer ( 2005), At First Sight ( 2005), Dear John ( 2006), The Choice (2007), The Lucky One (2008), The Last Song (2009), Safe Haven (2010), The Best of Me (2011), The Longest Ride (2013). He also co-authored a non-fiction book named Wokini: A Lakota Journey to Happiness and Self-Understanding. The novel Three Weeks with My Brother was co-written with his brother Micah. This writer has not won any major awards yet, but his writings are noteworthy. He had won the coveted Family Choice Awards in 2013, for his novels Dear John and A Bend in the Road, in the revised editions of his educational based line, The Novel Learning Series. True to his career Nicholas grew up doing different odd jobs and finally settled as an author creating blockbusters all around the world. There have been two unpublished books of his which he regards as an apprenticeship of sorts. Apart from writing, he enjoys reading, and running. He loves his 5 children and regularly practices Tae Kwon Do.  He is an established athlete with the highest record for the 4×800 relay in his hometown. He has also coached a team. This gentle soul is a great philanthropist contributing to a variety of local and national charities, and majorly to the Creative Writing Program (MFA) through which many scholarships and fellowships are provided. He has also launched a non-profit Nicholas Sparks Foundation committed to improvising and providing education throughout the world. As he rightly said, “All great love stories, by definition, must end in tragedy. Without great love, there’s no tragedy and vice versa. Also, my stories are supposed to seem real and tragedy is part of everyone’s life.” This man believes in giving a tragic twist to his tales mostly as an inspiration from his familial tragedies. It thus wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that he truly personifies the word ‘romance’.
