Around 60 % of your body weight consists of water. Yet the only thing doctors never ask you to avoid during any health issue is water (unless there is a functional problem in your kidneys). Water is a magical drink. However thirsty you may be no drink can quench your thirst the way water can. It is said that you can survive without food for 40 days if you are lucky, but without water? Three days, or in the rarest of the rare cases seven days, not more. They say that if there is a third world war, it will be for water. And with the depleting water sources, that day is coming close. Water can solve any health related problem. It is good for our health, it beautifies the skin, the hair and is also good for you if you want to lose weight. Despite the numerous benefits of water, it is undervalued by many of us.

Water is the natural make – up for your face, the perfect conditioner for your hair. The benefits of water with regard to beauty include:

  • It makes your hair strong! Drinking enough water daily will keep your hair from being dry and brittle.
  • Water is also good for your scalp and strengthens the roots.  Also, washing your hair with water that is slightly cooler keeps it soft and shiny.
  • It reduces dandruff.
  • It also helps with both dry and oily skin. There is no better cleanser, moisturizer, toner than water. Wash your face daily and cleanse it with your fingertips.
  • Water has the  ability to keep the skin moisturized and  make your body look younger.
  • It increases blood circulation and purifies the blood stream by detoxifying the body. This gives you a healthier skin. For this, drink at least eight glasses of water a day.
  • Drinking water can reduce the puffiness of your eyes and make them look beautiful.
  • Cold water tightens the pores of your skin. This in turn helps reduce acne.
  • It keeps the wrinkles away and reduces the rate of ageing of your skin!

Make your body more energized and keep your mind active with water. The health benefits of water include:

  • Drinking enough water daily also gives you good sleep and a fresh mind.
  • It keeps your heart healthy. A regular intake of water is known to prevent heart attacks.
  • It prevents headaches, especially migraines. Those who drink at least five glasses of water have less frequent headaches and much bearable migraines.
  • It boosts your thinking, your brain power. Your brain needs a certain level of oxygen intake to function well. Water ensures that it gets that much.
  • Many people are unaware that drinking enough water also helps in keeping your joints strong, healthy and lubricated. Water also helps in the function of muscles and ensures smooth movement; the moisture in the joints helps them to remain strong and flexible. This is also helpful for those with arthritis as water helps in keeping the movements smooth and free of pain.
  • It makes your immune system strong and helps combat influenza and other sicknesses.
  • Studies suggest that water can help reduce cancerous toxins in the urine and help prevent cancer of the colon and of the bladder.
  • It helps in digestion and also in the prevention of constipation.
  • Your body need to balance the fluid intake and need to keep it neutral at pH 7. Water helps your body do that. It also balances the body temperature.
  • If you feel fatigued and sleepy, water helps your body regain its energy. It is better than coffee. It also helps you beat that hangover.
  • Drinking moderately cold water helps with acidity.
  • It prevents kidney damage.

Lose the extra weight by using water both internally and externally. Water helps in fitness by:

  • Heard of water aerobics? Well, since it is difficult to move your muscles smoothly under water, exercising with your body submerged in water serves as a great way of toning those muscles. If water aerobics is too much for you, you could always go swimming.
  • It boosts the metabolism. High metabolism is exactly what you need to get rid of those extra inches. Drinking water 20 – 30 minutes before workout is ideal for your body to reach its maximum potential to burn fat.
  • Drinking a glass of water half an hour before meal reduces you appetite and you end up eating less, which in turn helps you lose weight.
  • It combats fluid retention. Sometimes the excess fat in the body is due to the retention of fluid. If you drink regular water, your body will not feel the need to retain fluid, hence a slimmer body.

With the rising population all around the world, potable water might soon seem to be a thing of the past. Water is perhaps the most important thing for body intake after oxygen and its conservation should not be neglected. There is not a single living being that does not need water. With all these things in mind, drink as much water you can and do not waste it. Drink at least eight to ten glasses of water a day even if its winter.
